Looks sweet, Jase. You got a slightly different mix of parts than I did but maybe you requested replacements for some of them?
On the base... I'd be inclinded to go with the larger base. You can add an acrylic cover easier that way. With kids and dogs i'd go that way for sure. Your detailed base sounds like the way to go as well. You definitley have the spare parts for it. I'd picture the surface looking like the backdrop for the turret miniature by DiSalvo that you posted recently.
