I'd make as much of those landing gear from aluminum as possible for durability. I don't know if these originally were on the studio model, but I don't see why not - this was the norm at the ILM shop back in the day. All small parts were made from metal to keep them from being broken off, and it was easier to make things from scratch than styrene parts. It was also easier to make more complex designs that could withstand weight, and with metal it was easier to make sharp edges between parts which are more refined, and more convincing than bulbous, gloppy rounded, almost shapeless recycled parts. You can control quality much more than with plastics way back when!

I can't wait to this in paint, and decals. It'd be nice to see a star screen backdrop behind this with the lights on inside the cockpit.
