All I'm saying is modifying the plastic parts is a lot more tricky than it might seem. Having held the vintage trimmed plastic parts from the original studio model in my hand, if I had to modify a vintage rocket kit right now I would know how to go about it. But, for the uninitiated it would be VERY tricky indeed to figure out exactly what needs to be done.
For example, if you trim too much or too little off one side or the other, the raised ridge along the top gets shifted out of the correct position. There are a few other tricks to know as well.
Bottom line, the whole job gets a LOT easier if you have these resin parts on hand. Worst case you can use them as a guide to trim the plastic parts. Best case -- you don't have to do anything at all! Just glue them on.
