BG Studio Scale Triangle Ship

Well I got 2 Triangle Ships from Chris Larson of Larson Designs/Lunar Models for Phil & myself.
I really liked what Kenny did with his so thought it might be a little fun project to smash out quickly.
As space is my nemesis right now this kit being not much bigger than my hand shouldn't be too much trouble.
I received the 2 kits packaged very well.
On inspection of the one I took for myself before forwarding the other to Phil was very happy with Chris's work on this kit.
I found only 3 areas needing a very small bit of work & all the parts were cast well.
The 1/12 P2 parts I may swap out as were a few tiny bubbles but nothing serious & just me being lazy.
Chris also sent actual Morser parts with both kits which was kool as well as original Saturn v thrusters.
Phil & I plan to Skype this afternoon to play with our little projects so will update tomorrow what we got done.
Actually looking forward to having something not overly complicated to build for some fun.
Overall this kit is pretty good & have no issues with any quality concerns.

This kit did tempted me when issued.
Are the donor kit parts (saturn 5, morser...) a special order or the main issue ? (As this will revised my opinion)

Looking at the parts, it seems that the assembly will go rather easily.

It is a fun build indeed Jase . I swapped most of my cast parts for originals only because I had spares on hand .Even added a few that wern't there and identified yet .
Olcabour , The donor kits are still readily available .

Like to thank Jase for sending me one of these to have some real fun with. The fun part being not getting too anal about things compared to the other build and it's been sometime since i've had a build to do just that. I've made a small start with mine and overall it's a good lil kit. Theres a couple of areas that could have been done a lil better but as a fun build it should be just that and Ken's build turned out looking really good which shows they are not worth worrying about. Already though i find there are part's i don't know and not in the kit so it's already a bit like the old build and chewing at me a bit to try find em. Nothing changes there i guess..LOL

Ken, thanks and what part's did you find that hadn't been ID'd?

Hey guys. I got this kit too. If you're building yours now I may join you and it can be a group build type of thing. I'm not sure that I'll be able to keep up with you though. Phil is probably mostly done by now. This ship is so small compared to the Galactica.

That'd be great Ken. Looking at things there a few things i don't what they are donated from. I posted some in the triangle ship thread but there are also some other parts i'm not sure on either looking more and they are not provided in the kit.

Doug well as you read above we started & ended up as usual getting a little anal...

So after getting some Primer on everything was a lot clearer.

As Phil said there are a couple of areas that could be better,as usual & is the case with most kits.
Even mine & is why I have started going back & fixing patterns on my kits.

After a splash of primer the scribe lines on the upper forward hull could\should be a lot cleaner.
They are a relatively easy fix so am not bothered by it.
I do suggest Chris revisit the pattern & clean them up for future prospects.
   
The other thing that came up a little short is the rear trench wall.
It's approximately 0.5mm to short so the Rail Gun part does not fit as it should.
Phil decided to cut the part to fit but I am going to drill it out so the part fits.
   
Also found some missing detail from the back upper fuselage when looking at an Andy Property picture of the studio model.
       
There are 2 more tanks that sir butted up together in between the 2 already on the rear.
There seems to be a couple of small pieces laying horizontally over those but can not see clear enough what they are.
But looking in the Leo kit spotted these 2 little parts that may be them.
Makes sense as are right by the tanks used on the sprue.
   
There are also some unidentified parts that sit on the wing edges.
Spear looking parts.
Lastly the there is a part missing from the gun turret on the top just behind the cockpit.
Again looking in the Leo is this part that looks right to me in scale, shape & simply looks like a gun?
   

Ok so drilling sanding time.

I still like this kit even with the extra work.

Ok , the only part that I can find so far that I don' think has been Id'd yet is the little s shaped part on the wing tips that attach to the little girders with the holes along them . it is the tamiya 88 mm gun flak 36/37 in 1:35 and is found on parts tree C # 1and 2. Jase , those spear shaped parts found in that same area might be found on the same parts tree . C # 43. Can't see the pic clear enough to make a positive Id though .
There is also a little part that sits on top of the little turret located on top of the cockpit that I don't have on my build but noticed in the pic that Jase posted . Again , can't make it out clear enough to I'd

Kenny I updated that last post with a picture of what I think the little gun part is.
Leopold & same part is used on the Viper.

Ok so got Starboardside pretty much done & just need to smooth out.
Had a small boo boo & broke the wing.
Easy fix no problem...

It's been so long since I have made time to build something for myself & am really enjoying it.

So have 'chiseled' out the back trenches walls, fixed the wing & removed the tanks to make room for the missing ones.
Just gotta clean up & can move on to the new scribe lines.

Looks like the nose needs some work.
There no forward edge that I will remodel & shape to be more accurate.

Chris these are all things you can fix on your pattern.
It's a good pattern & just needs a little rework.

Well i see you went ahead and started hacking into yours. As long as you're having fun then why not. I'm still resisting doing anything along those lines with this one as things will be close enough for me. I may do the tanks at the rear on top.. As you thought last night theres not enough gap to fit the extra ones with the pre moulded ones that are on the fuselage already. That will be about it though and the rest i'll just work around and live with. It's good to see you're enjoying playing around again there.

Ken, i was wondering the same thing if the spears could be those 88mm part's you mentioned. Like you said the ref just isn't good enough to be able to tell what was used there or for what looks like could be a gun behind the cockpit. I guess it means people can do whatever they like and until some betta ref surfaces no one can say if things are right or not.

The hard stuffs done so I'm ok with it.

A little work on the nose & cockpit.
I'm also adding some styrene walls to the sides of the cockpit like it is on the studio model.

I was looking for the wing tip guns as well. I stared at that pic for a while and I'm fairly certain it is the bottom 2 of the one in the 88mm kit in the pic below. The shapes of the bumps matches these more closely than the other 2.



This may have been found already too but I think the triangle shaped thing with the round bit at the tip is used in the well behind the cockpit with half of one side and half of the top circle cut off. Hopefully that makes sense. I'll have to cut up one of mine to verify.

I had the fortune of seeing the original of this one a few years back when I visited Gene Kozicki. It's nice that this one was finally kitted.

Cool, I must get one of those models for myself. Might be a good way to ease back into the cooler weather and modelling season after a massive summer. It's a long time since I've painted and weathered a model that's for sure. How much is the kit?

Yep , those are the parts that I was talking about . They were the closest part that I could find to match what you can make out in the pic . Wish there was a clearer pic of that area as it is pretty prominent part of the ship .

Seems like we are thinking the same thing with those 88mm parts. Thems were the ones i was thinking of when talking with Jase a couple of days ago. The ref is what it is and from that they look like they could be the ones or at the very least do the job for our builds. Unless there is a better picture out there they'll work for me.

I think that piece sitting on the turret is updside down.

That makes even more difficult to figure out...
The piece underneath looks like a wheel with tyre.
I'm wondering if its aircraft which may be what the piece on top is from.

Well did a little yesterday adding the styrene to the side canopy walls.

The Starboardside wasn't even, so ripped it off to do again.
The canopy needs to be flattened out a bit.

Didn't look right.

Fitting the new trench walls.

A little bit more grinding on the edges of the back wall sorted some fitting issues.
They're pretty snug now & still not glued.

Can you flick a picture.

You can see the styrene on the sides of the canopy.
It was annoying to fit & cut the whole wall & in the ref they step in at the cockpit section.
So grinned a bit off each side to add them.
Just need a bit more sanding on the cockpit, clean up the forward wings & rescribe the panel lines.
Should look more accurate.

I see you are well and truely into doing those mods. Looks like it's working out pretty good there and will make things look closer to the original miniature which is what it's about.just the same. You're going to a lot of trouble but enjoying it. Been too long since you did any playing really. I'm dragging me arse on my own here. The anal bug is there a bit and really the more i look at things the more dimensional issues i find. Thats making things hard the way i am. Guess it's just reinforcing the good enough approach for this one and thats what it'll be. Something around the mark yet not right on it.

Yeah I haven't worked on anything for so long I didn't mind the extra work.
Apart from the scribe lines I'm just chucking parts on & painting it.

Ok so I also have to change the front trench details.
That she'll in the front just doesn't look right & stands out to much.

I think it's from the Sabres drop tanks.

It's got the right angles at the tip point.

A couple of things we've discussed can be seen in this pic. One is the part Doug was talking about and the other is the detail on the outa wing that was brought up earlier. Not sure if thats exaclty how things were but it'll be good enough for my own build anyway.

I needed the turbines as I screwed one of mine up sanding it on the belt sander.
Too much friction creates energy that creates heat.....
