Yeah mate was ready to chuck in the towel just before the last round but am rejuvenated by my new skills Just can't get enough now.
   
So did my second piece tonight & the light test looks good. Im working from the back forward on the building sections.
   
   
Ive got these two floaters that sit next to thies two already threaded pieces. Im going to remove their stands & create a box so I can put some lights in these too!
   
   
Its a shame this wasn't a good cast with thge amount of work Ive put into this. I didn't realise with my inexperience how bad alot of pieces were. It was one of the last apparently & has since been remoulded & castings available again...

It does look like a lot of bubbles in there. the detail is so fine though that it may not really show too much. On the smooth sections you can always fill them in. On these little guys, your FO lighting will be the only thing you'll see when the lights are turned on. It's going to be awesome.

I remember you asking me about these paticular pieces when I couldn't think of how to light them without seeing the FO. This was the idea I came up with. Cut the stand & build a box with styrene. That will work sweet. I want lighting on this build where Lee didn't put it. Just going to try & go that extra couple of steps. lee Fury paved the way being the first I know of to light this kit & it needs to be taken a little further to be individually original.

Wow,thats a S load of strands which means the same was required for the drilling.I think i'd get a headache myself trying to run that many fine strand that close together somehow.
But it's looking good,what you have achieved so far dude,it's gonna look pretty damn cool when she's done and you flick the switch having that effect showing.
You know,i have a question about the strands.Do you glue these from the back,then paint the model and just cut the strands off flush when it's all dry?I've heard of people heating up the ends to get a mushroom effect on the strand end,i'd guess that if doing that you have the strands hanging out,paint it,then pull them buck into the model and glue from behind?

Just curious what you are doing there with that one mate?
I gotta learn about all this stuff,nothing too soon it'll be needed for but it's gonna be needed down the track later.

It's hard to visualize. Are you going to add light bleeding through around these blocks in addition to the FO? Kind of like what is done on the edge of the SD sometimes?

Phil I haven't actually secured/glued the strands in place yet. I too wasn't exactly sure what to use but I think I will use Aryldite or Sylicon, securing from the back.
Doug do you mean to have light seeping from beneath to add another level of light source from beneath? If so I thought of trying that but think I will just secure them all in, paint it black, find the light seepages & fill them in. This will just leave the lights from the Fibre Optics. The pieces were just hooked up to the back of the Falcon for a light test.
Its rewarding & motivating to get to this stage of the build. Its showing me just how much I have learnt in under a year. Im very happy.

ok team its my weekend(thats starts Sundats) & Ive also got 10 days off! Time with the kids & building!!! So today got most of the add on pieces drilled. Broke about 8 drill bits in the process & am down to my last batch... Gonna need more cause I aint even started on the hulls Have already threaded about 300-400ft of fibre optic & it aint even close to how much Im going to need I started with 500ft. Thought Id get the engine LED's all wired up & couldn't resist a light test
Got way ahead of myself & will have to pull it apart as I need to fix the primer in the hulls & then install the Fibre Optic that will be around the lower cities etc before the engines can be hooked up. Thanks Doug. Yep I still goy a fair bit of resin to remove so I can get fibre to all the spots I want to on this kit. The drill bits just snap if the resins too thick. Gets embedded & breaks. I want lights in places like the far rear cities, the front under cities & just lots a lil spots no ones done that Ive seen if you know what I mean. In all honesty & Ive said it from the start Lee Fury's SSD was the first I saw with light & was my inspiration & motivation to do this. Its my first SCI FI resin kit & Im still working on the bloody thing. Nearly a year now since I jumped into this studio scale world from sitting in the shadows for 5-10 years so I been trying to catch up from day dot. Ive learnt alot & am going to put it to good use from now on.

Ay thanks buddy. Yep alot of work & this was my introduction into this crazy modeling world nearly a year ago. Was a bit beyond me for a first off, but has been a great learning curb. Really motivating to see stuff coming together for the final picture. Should look quite good all lit up.

Check out the thread on Starship Modeler about the recent quality of the RC SD kit. It's good to go into a purchase like that fully informed.

This is the thread I was referring to. I hope this is an isolated incident and not a trend. I've seen some incredible build ups of this kit and would like to get one myself at some point. Lighting, similar to what you are doing would be a must.

Well its my first day off in 8years that I haven't one or two kids with me With my son in Prep(first year) Theyre both at school. Sort of sad really but now I got one day to build, walk, go to the beach with the dogs or whatever So back to this time consuming fibre optic LED eating monster I started. Ive spent the morning (3hours) threading the last of my 500ft of fibre optic & just made it to the finish line on my 3rd piece. Yep 3rd piece! Theres 500ft of fo on 3 pieces Guess I'll be placing an order. Lucky I gave up drinking So this is it my 3rd piece of threaded fo building with a quick light test to keep myself & everyone else amused & interested Still got plenty to thread & theure just the add on sections..........

Yes thats what I say to myself after every session on this build. Insane.... You know my best abillity is painting thats why I started making these kits. I haven't done any in over a year cause these things take so much work, resources, patience, time & pure insanity to get done.... But I Luv it!!!!

Holy this is a huge project, and all those fiber optic that has to be run through, but you know what..... it's gonna be worth it when it's finished.

The glow of the engine lights really does look cool.

I'm using the 0.5mm FO on my cockpit and it seems really tiny and hard to use. I have some of the 0.25 and wouldn't even attempt what you're doing. Makes me appreciate your sticking with it even more. Great job.

Ahhh brought back from the abyss.
Sorry this project is not completed.
Got sucked into studio scale & is just sitting.
This was one of the first productions.
The new kits are much better casted.

I was completely engrossed in this thread, but it seems to have stopped cold. Has this project been shelved indefinitely??

Not definately.
At present I have everything in storage until we buy our own property.
All going as planned it will enable me to have a large shed/ shop to work from.
So pretty much everything is on hold except for kit production.
So it will be back in the future.
No point giving up this far into the build, ay.
