Greetings to all-
I have officially signed up and looking forward to the experience. I've been modeling for several years, and have been (by some weird twist of fate) building studio scale models for the past two years as a day job. I have participated heavily in the building of two studio scale Galacticas (TV version), as well as other similar projects. Making the switch from 1:48 scale "kit" modeling to industrial modeling has been a great experience, and has allowed me to utilize not only the fine motor skills, but also machine shop, carpentry, electrical, drafting, 3D-CAD, and more. My employer has gifted me a Northstar Enterprise "A" kit he had laying around, and I look forward to assembling this lovely ship for home display.

Well, it sounds like you'll fit right in around here and maybe you can even give us some tidbits of your day job. Without violating any standing agreements of course. You'll find a very dedicated following of BSG right here!

Welcome to SSM's,i think by the sound of things you will fit in very well with the rest of the builders here.
The SS bug is a hard thing to get rid of once you've been bitten?
So from what you've mention i think most know the Galactica's you were involved with.That had to be an experience being involved building them pair up.

Thank you. Yes it was quite a thrill (as well as a Herculean effort). Galactica #1 (which was actually christened the Atlantia) was a save from a deficient build, it had to be extensively pulled apart and reworked, plumbed, hogged, refabbed, and adapted. Still, it came out pretty spectacular. Galactica #2 was more along the par of an aerospace project, with a groundwork design in the 3D-CAD realm from none other than the ace of space, Mr. Charles Adams. This one was assembled in a modular fashion, with nary a hitch. It is currently on an 18-month-long display at Seattle's Science Fiction Museum.

(And no, no plywood was used in either of these, as was in the original Galactica!)

The downside of building two Galacticas is that my wife now hears me shouting out in my sleep things like "Roco!", "Leopold!", and "Yamato!". And on a side note I'm thinking of officially changing my name to Karl Morser.

Yeah,i think building up G will do that to you.With all the different kit's/part's it really can scramble the brain.I guess it could have been worse,it could have been ya wife that was involved with the build and her shouting out them names? LOL

Yeah the first G which became Atlantia,from what i read elsewhere did become a bit messy situation.But in the end you guy's still managed to make it look PFG to my eyes anyway.THE second build though is definitely a betta build and it's great that she is on show for people to see one of these beasties for themselves.

I'm sure there will be plenty that have know idea just how big and detailed the SS model is.
