Ok here's another SS TOS BSG Shuttle

It's not as easy as it looks really trying to get everything to fit just right.If you have any of the key items outa place ya got a job ahead of you trying to get everything to look right.Trust me,i've just been through it with mine.

Jase,i just use automotive spot putty dude.But be aware this stuff will eat styrene and plastic if layed on too heavy.On resin though it's no problems at all.

Thanks guys!! I could'nt agree more Phil i already had to do some small mods to some of the parts to get them to fit to what i think is right.

Well I've been using 5 min. epoxy because it gives me the work time to get the small parts in place and with some of the tight area its kinda hard for me to get the CA glue in there with out making a mass .

As for filling gaps I like using 3M Spot putty because it drys fast and its easy to sand as for the primer iam just using some cheap spray can primer i got at the Auto Parts store.

Hello gang,

Well time for another update i did some more work on the ass end of the shuttle and started on the front as well . Now iam sure all you guys know this who are working on this kit and i hope i did it right but from looking at the ref. pic's of the front it looks like a round tube runs along the front right below the big square plate that you glue on.

Oyeah i also started work on the piping that go's on the side and there's something else i hope you guys can help me out I've been going through and laying out the parts for the landing gear and i don't know if iam over looking it but what are the parts that the small round landing pads go to I've talked to Mike and he said the parts should be there.

Thats coming along very nicely there Mark,wont be long and you'll have this one at the paint stage now!Yeah,there appears to be some tubing that runs along the front as you've done it,it looks correct too me anyway.As for the landing gear,in the kit it looks like you should have for each assembly,the pad's X 2,the axel's X 2,the A Frame part,and the Leopold part.Thats all there appears to be in the kit.It'll be the last stuff i play around with so i have less chance of breaking it off of mine.

Thanks Phil!! I still have a long ways to go before i get to the paint stage and i know how you feel about the landing gear that's why i was kinda saving it for last . I got all those parts for the landing gear but from looking at the ref. pic's it just seem that iam missing something or more likely i just have'nt figured it out yet.

Mark,i had another problem tonight getting a couple of part's to fit,It's another width problem like i had with the domes.On your build did you have to sand or modify the two fork halves that sit along side of the Marder piece on the back deck?They definitely wont both fit on mine the way they are.

Well Phil all i had to do was do some light sanding and the parts pretty much fell in place . Now i was just thinking and i may be wrong about this but seeing that you are using model kit parts which i love that you are doing but have you compare the kit parts you are using to the ones that came with the kit i think i heard that resin has a shrink factor about it but like i said i could be wrong.

I guess i'll sand the Marder part a little more and see if i can get those parts to fit a little better but i really don't think i can get enough to have the spacing like in the b&w picture.There just doesn't seem to be enough width on that back deck just like the top deck was with the domes.It's something i'll probably just have to live with more than likely.

I know what you mean Phil , Now that i think about there were some small spacing problems and i don't mean fitting problems with the small parts on the back deck just the spacing in between the small parts now i could be wrong but the panel lines seem just a little bit off on the ass end of the back deck but to me its no big deal and thats what it seems when i looked at the ref. pic's .

We just have to remember Sean C corrected some anomolys with the original & thats probably why its a little off here & there.

Time for another update, I did some more work on my shuttle this past week i almost got the under side done and i did some work on the top side around the domes so now i guess i can start on the landing gear just as soon as i figure out how the small round landing pads go together.

Mark. If I can light models now anyone can. Please let us know what you need & we'll make it happen for you. Its really basic when explained basically. Really & once you get it theres no stopping you. Look at me with no knowlege until I was fortunate enough to get the electrician at work to explain it to me in Australian which means simply! I got that SSD with 1000+ Fibre Optics going in it & 15 engines on it & I didn't know squat until a month or so ago. Trust me its reallllllyyyyyy easy.

Thanks Jason, Well i have only put lights on one kit which was my SS Tie Fighter with some help from Doug which over all was pretty easy but i just did'nt think i had the know how to pull it off on this kit as well as you guys are doing. But come hell or high water iam going to give it a try on my next project.

Lighting can be cool but in all honesty,how many of us display them with the lights on with the builds we've done that we've fitted lighting too?99% of the time they sit there unlit,so don't be too concerned about this build not having lighting there Mark.
But the next build,for sure,add it if it's something ya wanna do!

Yeah but wouldn't it be great to one day have a nice display of models & be able to have all the lights on at the same time sitting in the dark. That will be a wow day.

I've learned a lot on these forums in the last several years and still feel like I've barely scratched the surface at lighting. I think the hardest part of lighting is making it look to scale with the model. if the brightness of the lights is to scale then it really enhances the model. If the lights are too bright it can look worse than with no lights at all.

Thanks guys. Well i started on the landing gear today well on one side any ways and won't you know it just as soon as i finish one side and log on to post a pic. to see what you guys think of what i came up with Mike post on his build thread the right way to do it just my luck.

Well i think I'll just leave it the way it is its only off by just a little bit and do the other side the same way. But then again i may go back and redo it I'll sleep on it.

This is just me,but i'd re do it Mark.It won't be that hard to re do the one side and you'll be happier with the more correct look once you do it.Trust me,i re do everything i touch,and even if it's still not right i try and get it to a point i can live with.
It's upto you though bud,afterall it's your build and you ain't building this for us,it's for yourself to enjoy!

Mate,theres a lot of highs and lows that go with building but we get over the lows and move on and make things betta when we can.I've gone through one of those thing's tonight and it's a real massive low after being on the biggest high just hours earlier.
Anyway,nuf about that,i'm glad ya gonna give it a go and i think you'll be happier in the long run bud!
Then ya will be on one of them highs i was earlier today!

Look at it this way - you could have to keep redoing all your work like I do,as there's no instruction manual,or premade model,or base to work from! If this bothers you,just redo it until YOU'RE satisfied with it,but don't wait until it's all finished to do so. I have to make 98% of my parts from scratch on a huge model - with very poor reference,as I have to supersize my photos,and decipher what I see with digital technology. This is what is taking me so damn long to get anything done! I could've built a hundred of these shuttles from scratch in the time I've taken to look at reference photos alone! This is Lucasfilm property,and they're not going to let me have first hand at this,so I can copy it.

This shuttle looks really good,so don't worry about little things that won't be seen,or are not as noticable. Mike did a great job making this kit a reality,and now you have something very few on this earth will ever own - let alone build the way you did.

OK here we go this is what it looks like now i do think i got it right this time. You know i was looking over the kit and i do see one or two small things i might try and fix they should be easy fixes , I guess what threw me off just a little bit was when i started the build i was going by the color ref's pic's instead of the B/W pic's i first thought they were the same model but after taking a closer look at the B/W pic's i can see there are some small difference.

Maybe this was changed later? Sometimes,the shop manager will come by,and say - "This didn't work as well as we'd hoped it would. Now we need to change this,or that - to make it look more convincing".

CC,excatley mate,the shuttle did go through a refit of sorts when it had the Pegasus dress applied.Several thing's were changed and the colour pictures we see of the replica's taken from the original are with the Pegasus dress but they have the Galactica front cover used instead of the Pegasus cover.I think the piping on the side for instance is one of those changes perhaps as the Pegasus had a top mount cover between the domes where as it's not in the b&w shot that i'm using for my build reference mostly.
That becomes an interestin thing really as the armature must have been pre installed with a top mount but the boady wasn't opened up there on top for access to somethime after the b&w shot.

Anyway,enough on that but Mark,you need to work out what time frame you are doing the build as.The things you are talking about changing maybe might infact be correct?

Well i got the other side landing gear on and man they were kinda of a pain to get those landing gear pads glued on the A frame but i got it on , now besides a few small parts and the decals and the missing parts which i hope Mike will get out soon iam getting close to the painting stage .

But for now i think iam going to start doing some fine tuning clean up work in some of the area that need smoothing out.

I bet the landing gear is a PITA to glue up. There's very little surface area touching at most of the joints.

Actually I'd like to know if there's some good color reference on the original (like paint brand/numbers) The photos all look different and it's really hard to compare or get a sense of what it actually looked like. My guess is that Jon's model is a good reference for the original color and those pics were taken in natural light so probably pretty good reference.

I agree with Doug,i think the pictures of Jon's shuttle would be the best guide we can all use for the colours when painting them.

I agree i was thinking of ordering some more Floquil reefer white and some grime and do some mixing to come up with a close match for the base color.

ILM....Um - HUM..... I mean Apogee used the same colours for the X-wings,and Galactica,as they did for all the other models of this light colour. This is why they all have this colouring. This washes out beautifully under a 100 watt bulb while filming. This gives it that old 70s' look when filming,or photographing.

This was just primer gray way back when. This is more of a darker gray now days,but back then it was almost white. I suggest Floquil cammo gray,as this looks the closest of any gray,or white colour without mixing it yourself.

Well i don't know for sure but i know John Dykstra worked on Galactica as well as Star Wars so i was thinking that they must have used some of the same base colors on Galactica's ships as they did in Star Wars which i read two of the colors were Floquil Reefer White and Grime.

They should still make it. If not,try Tamiya cammo gray. This is what most of the guys on the forums use without compromising colour integrity. Let me see if I can find this colour locally,or through the website.
